Your Skin But Better Summer Makeup
Makeup that looks like my skin, but better, has always been my favorite. (Also because it’s the fastest to do!) Naturally, I’m just not the type to wear layers of foundation and tons of eye makeup on a day to day basis. A gorgeous base of glowing skin and a slight brushed bronze is always stunning in the summertime. By using hydrating products that are lightweight, and creams for adding color and natural definition, I’m guaranteed a fresh finish, without the heavy makeup feeling, and a complexion that glows! Below, are the current products I’ve been reaching for for almost every day this summer to achieve a vibrant, youthful, and sun kissed look.
Starting with freshly cleansed, toned, and moisturized skin I apply my ultimate face product when I’m not using a foundation. When it comes to adding coverage for a more natural makeup look in the summertime, something lightweight like a Tinted Moisturizer or CC Cream will let the skin breathe, but will also help achieve the beautiful, barely there makeup look we want. That’s why I have been reaching for the IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream for years! This product can be applied with your hands or with a kabuki brush. I love the buildable coverage it provides, while still giving you skin loving ingredients and SPF! We love a multi-beneficial product out here!
For any little spots you’d like to conceal, such as the under-eye dark circles and the scar I have on my cheek you should look for a radiant finish concealer that won’t dry out your skin. That’s why I love and trust the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer the most. It gives you that full coverage we crave but doesn’t look flakey and dry.
To define the high points of the face and amp up that overall glow we want in the summer time, I love to go in with my favorite cream bronzer and blush. No matter if it’s summer or winter, I am a huge cream / liquid blush and bronzer girl. I love the way the pigment can glide on the skin and you can really work it in the apples of the cheeks to give a natural looking flush to the skin. My favorite cream blush at the moment is the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick. The fact that it is in stick form makes travel and application much easier and mess free! The cult favorite, and my personal hero bronzing product, is the Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base. This looks stunning underneath or on top of makeup! I apply this with a dense, smaller sized kabuki brush and buff it into the skin. Cream products just melt right into the skin and looks as though it is your own skin! I also appreciate the fact that these products dry down like a powder would, but never look dull or chalky.
If you get oily like I do, you should always remember to set your face products so there is no movement or transferring of product off your face and on to your clothes, hands, etc. To guarantee that my products will stay on my face I quickly swipe a translucent setting powder across my forehead and t-zone. Viola! You have completed the face.
Now to achieve an almost natural look, you cannot forget about the brows or the lashes. If you want to look fresh faced but still wear a little something to emphasize the eyes, I’d recommend using a brown mascara (if you have light hair/light eyes like me!). Sometimes black mascaras can look very harsh on me because my lashes are a light sand color. Since discovering Benefit’s They’re Real! mascara in the brown shade I have been hooked on how natural it looks on me! This product gives me the length and volume I want in my lashes without looking too harsh.
As for brows, I am lucky that I have thick brows but they are curly! So a gel is always necessary for me, especially if I want my brow hairs to all be going the same way and not curling out of control! Hahaha! Glossier’s Boy Brow really does the trick for me when I want to achieve a perfect brow day and keep those babies under control. I use shade Brown and it works perfect for me! It provides a thickening element which helps me achieve a more even look to my brows where I may be more sparse in some areas. It also fills them in so you won’t need to worry about penciling those eyebrows in.
