My 5 Must-Haves Items When Working A Corporate Job

Hello my friends! As some of you may know, I have just started working as a Marketing Associate at a big insurance company here in Connecticut. Yes! My first “big girl” job out of college! My dress code is “business casual” on most days, but on special days it is definitely more business-y, so proper business attire is needed too! Starting a corporate job can be a bit daunting because it is unlike college in many ways. Luckily, I interned at this company the year before I started full-time so I got a strong idea of what I actually needed and what one can expect while working in corporate America. I hope I can help any recent college grad (like myself) or those women who are just entering the corporate world for the first time feel super prepared and ready to take on the world!

1. Durable Tote Bag

I think a great quality and functional work bag doesn’t have to be ugly or masculine. There are some great options for women that quickly elevate your look and add a little sophistication to any outfit. My personal favorite is the Longchamp ‘Le Pliage’ large tote in all black. Below I linked a few bags that are great for fitting everything you need for going to and from work each day! Large enough to fit a laptop, wallet, water bottle, a few snacks, and practically anything else you may need.

2. Professional Padfolio

This is something my business school taught me! If you are in the interview process, it is super convenient to have a professional looking padfolio, basically a leather notebook, with storage for documents and business cards. So you can bring a copy of your resumé, save any documents or business cards the interviewer may give you, and a convenient place to jot down notes or questions. Some padfolios even have a little loop to store a pen inside, so you really are super prepared for any meeting or important work occasion ahead of you. Check out my favorites below!

3. “Chic” Adult Lunch Bag (& Bento Boxes!)

Make your life super easy by packing a lunch and meal prepping! I love knowing that I have healthy meals ready to go for lunch at the office. Not only is this a super healthy option but also a great way to save money. Bento boxes also make it fun and easy to pack snacks too.

4. Pretty Flats

Knowing you’re putting your best foot forward into the day is a great feeling, so LITERALLY, you can put your best foot forward with my favorite pairs of work appropriate flats. I believe every woman needs a great pair of ballet flats or just “flats” as I call it, for work. My job does not expect women to wear heels every day! Unless you’re working at Vogue or a very fancy company that encourages more dressed up attire, you can always opt for a great flat, mule, or loafer for work. Here are some of my favorites:

5. A Boss-Lady Blazer

If you are working in the business world you gotta have a great fitting blazer that is well made and will help complete any look! Throwing a blazer over a dress or a nice shirt can instantly add the “down to business” vibe to any outfit. My personal favorite, and a new find for me, is this fabulous Club Monaco blazer I found at Nordstrom. It fits like a glove and flatters your waist and shoulders nicely. The black one is a rich black color with beautiful gold buttons on the sleeves. Shop my favorites below!
